LPG Bulk Installation the choice of Above Ground and Mounded is governed by factors:   a) Space Requirement b) Cost of Installation c) Safety of Installation

• Space Requirement: The space requirement for Above Ground and Mounded installation will be as per Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules, 1981.
• Generally, space for Above Ground installation will be more than mounded installations for similar size installations.
• Cost of installation: The cost of installation for mounded is more than above ground installation by about 20% including the civil work and Cathodic protection that needs to be provided to prevent the tanks from corrosion.
• Safety of Installation: The greatest risk in the LPG installation is known as BLEVE (Boiling Liquid expanding Vapour Explosion) that is inherent with the above ground open installation. This risk is COMPLETELY eliminated in case of the earth covered mounded installation. The mounded installation is hence called enhanced safety installation.
